my counselling approach

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a key element of successful therapy, therefore, taking care to choose a therapist who you feel comfortable with is important.

My counselling approach is integrative which allows me to work with a broad range of techniques to offer you a tailored approach to fit your individual needs and personality.

Counselling is very much a two way process and an experience which can help you gain deeper insight and understanding of your current thoughts, feelings and behaviours, thus creating an opportunity to make positive change in your life.

I work with what you bring at your pace - long term or short term.

Please don't hesitate to contact me should you wish to make an appointment or need further information.

'I saw Margaret for about 8 sessions when I knew I needed to unpack some of my most deep-rooted issues, put them to rest and stop them holding me back from being the peaceful person I wanted to be. I also knew this was going to be very painful and difficult, maybe not even possible.
When I first met Margaret it didn't take long for me to see her professionalism, honesty and warmth, plus her expertise. As a result, I was able to form trust and believe I in her ability to help me. Margaret took just the right approach with me - lots of exploration of ideas and suggestions until I was able to find self-help techniques and exercises that I could relate to. Simply talking it through wasn't going to be enough for me - I've done enough of that in the past with other counsellors and knew I needed something more. It's hard to explain how, but with Margaret's insights and care, I've been able to move forward a giant step and now have a set of tools I can always call upon if needed. Margaret has been an immense help on my journey, and I can't recommend her highly enough.
Thank you, Margaret! X'

"I had suffered from low self-esteem for as long as I can remember, and when I hit obstacles in life this would spiral downwards into bouts of depression.
I’d spent years on and off anti-depressants, but I knew this wasn't a long-term solution and I was afraid the depression would always return, and so I sought counselling.
I found Margaret online and we 'clicked' straight away. I could open up to her and she made me believe in myself and my self-worth. She gave me tasks to do and go away and think about. She had me laughing. She really helped to build up my self- confidence and I can't thank her enough.
It is amazing to realise the difference between the person I was when I first met Margaret to what I am now.
I really cannot recommend her enough."

“I have a history of unexplained infertility. After four years of trying for a baby, several miscarriages and a failed round of IVF I was at a very low ebb. I felt at a loss for how to cope and needed to talk to someone. I'm so glad I found Margaret. She was so easy to talk to, supportive, frank, funny and totally authentic. She gave me the space to grieve my losses and consider the range of stressors I was experiencing, such as work and family pressures alongside trying for a baby. It helped me unwind inside, feel less fraught, allowed me to be kinder to myself and validate how I was feeling about things at a time when I had a lot of self-doubt and angst. I was more able to appreciate what I had and consider a life without a child of my own, Plan B we called it.
And that’s when I conceived again. I now have a toddler and I honestly don't think we could have done it without the kind support Margaret gave me to get to that better place. She helped me unlock something within me. I owe her a huge gratitude.
